Power companies are still dealing with the aftermath of one of the earliest ice storms to date in western Oklahoma.

Power outages in the area are still an issue with some portions of the region being without power since Monday afternoon.

Public Service Company of Oklahoma External Affairs Manager Mike Hixson says the main issue PSO is dealing with is a downed transmission line.

Hixson said the damaged line coming from Elk City could be repaired as soon as tonight.

He said nearly 9,000 PSO customers in the Elk City, Clinton, and Weatherford area are without power.

Hixson says PSO currently has more than 700 workers, including line workers, tree crews and support state working on restoring power. He said an additional 300 workers from outside the area have been arriving in stages throughout the day to assist with the efforts.

Northfork Electric Cooperative is reporting just over 1,800 customers without power.

Driving conditions have dramatically improved across the area. According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s road condition map, only Custer and Beckham Counties in the region are reporting roads as being in “moderate” condition.
