An Elk City man was hospitalized after being involved in a one vehicle accident late Saturday night in Washita County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 34-year-old Holland Fleming was northbound on State Highway 44, a half mile north of Burns Flat, when he lost control of his 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis while trying to avoid hitting a deer. OHP says the car departed the roadway to the left and struck a dirt embankment, eventually coming to rest in the bottom of a 10-foot ditch.

Fleming was transported to AllianceHealth Clinton where he was admitted with leg, foot, and head injuries. He was last listed to be in stable condition.

OHP says the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the mishap.

No other cars were involved.
