During the latest meeting of the Elk City Commission, city leaders approved the budget for fiscal year 2021 – 2022.

City Manager Tom Ivester breaks down the budget, saying with this version, pay increases and salary schedules will used towards the fire, EMS, and police departments along with city employees.

Ivester said the public works authority will see a little over $10 million and the capital construction budget will see $3.3 million, an increase from last year, and will be used towards various infrastructure projects including two street and drainage projects, and equipment improvements for the landfill.

Ivester says this year’s budget is considerably bigger than last year’s, with the local economy still recovering the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new budget plan goes into affect on July 1.
