A Tulsa man received additional felony charges in Beckham County recently after attempting to flee the courthouse after being ordered back to jail by a district judge.
The incident took place on May 5 when, according to a probable cause affidavit, 41-year-old Jeremy Lee Bacquet was ordered to return to the Beckham County Detention Center by the judge after a court hearing regarding separate felony charges.
After the ruling, Bacquet allegedly fled out of the third floor courtroom despite being ordered to stop by the judge and an assistant district attorney. It was then that the County Court Clerk activated an emergency button at her desk, which transmitted to the nearby jail and the county staff.
The affidavit said that the defendant fled down the stair where he was eventually confronted by a Beckham County Sheriff’s Deputy. There, the suspect would allegedly grab the deputy by the arm in an attempt to push him out of the way. The deputy would use the momentum to push Bacquet into a nearby wall, damaging it, however the suspect was able to break free and get outdoors.
Bacquet would then flee on foot on Main Street before eventually being captured by detention deputies on a residential property at Walnut and Broadway.
Bacquet was charged on May 10 with one count of assault and battery on a police officer – a felony, and one count of escape from arrest or detention.
Bond for Bacquet was set at $100,000.
