Sales Tax Numbers Show Economic Hope in Western Oklahoma

January sales tax numbers are in and once again local municipalities are seeing strong numbers despite a down economy.

However one major city in western Oklahoma is below the $1 million mark for the first time in nearly a year.

According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission’s latest data, Elk City collected just under $1 million in the month of January by taking in just over $946,600, a 1.7% decrease when compared to a year ago.

Clinton was also down 7.5% bringing in a little over $412,600. However Weatherford was over $1 million, taking in just over $1,024,000, a 13.7% increase when compared to last January.

Fellow I-40 community, Sayre was up a whopping 40% when compared to last year – bringing just over $176,000.

Other area towns in western Oklahoma saw Hobart up 2% at just under $105,700, Cordell up 4% bringing $90,930 and change, and Mangum up 91% accumulating a little over $81,500.
