An Illinois couple was arrested and charged in Beckham County recently after being found with, among other things, a large amount of fentanyl pills and guns.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the pair from Toulon, Illinois were pulled over by a special agent with the Bureau of Indian Affairs on Interstate 40 on June 27 for minor traffic violations.

While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, later identified as being 28-year-old Mina Gronado and 28-year-old Anthony Thomas, the agent said he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and ultimately conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. The affidavit stated that before the search began, he noticed items in Thomas’ sock which were later determined to be 3, M-30 fentanyl pills.

During the search, the agent said he found 2 large plastic bags of blue M-30 pills, 2 large plastic bags of marijuana, 2 bricks of suspected powder fentanyl, 2 handguns and 1 assault rifle.

All the items were located inside a speaker box in the trunk of the vehicle.

The affidavit stated that during the booking process, the driver of the vehicle (Gronado) stated that everything found inside of the car was hers.

Both received multiple possession, trafficking, and gun related charges.

Thomas’ bond was reduced to $10,000 after intitally being set at $250,000. However Gronado’s bond remained at $250,000.

Their next court date is scheduled for August 14.
