Hobart, OK — The American Cancer Society is gearing up for the 40th annual Relay For Life of Southwest Oklahoma, taking place on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 6PM to 10PM at the Hancock Event Center, located at 430 N Jefferson in Hobart.
This year’s Relay marks four decades of impact, offering a vibrant celebration of life and remembrance for those touched by cancer. Participants form teams and take turns walking or running around a track in a high-energy, festival-like atmosphere filled with music, food, and camaraderie. The event raises money for cancer research and services through team registration fees and individual donations.
Relay For Life began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt walked 24 hours straight in Tacoma, WA, raising $27,000. Since then, the event has grown to include over 6,000 communities nationwide.
Everyone is welcome—athletes and non-athletes, families, friends, clubs, and organizations. Cancer survivors are invited to take a victory lap during the Survivors’ Lap, while a Luminaria Ceremony honors those lost to cancer and those still fighting, with candles lighting the track in a powerful tribute.
Teams can register online at relayforlife.org/southwestok. Once team members raise $100, they qualify for a participant T-shirt. Team captains who lead $1,000 fundraising efforts earn a captain’s shirt as well.
The American Cancer Society encourages teams to set goals, get creative with fundraising, and attend team captain meetings to stay informed. Incentive prizes are available for top fundraisers through shoprelayrewards.org, with reward codes sent about two weeks after the event.
