Canute, OK — Firefighters from Canute and Elk City worked together Friday morning to extinguish a motorhome fire along the eastbound on-ramp at the 47-mile marker in Canute.

According to Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka, his department was called to assist at around 8:20 a.m. When crews arrived, they found the RV fully engulfed in flames.

The occupant was out and she had multiple animals that she had gotten out before we got there,” Chervenka said. “No injuries to animals or people, and they were able to extinguish it.”

After the fire was put out, investigators determined the blaze likely started near the vehicle’s rear drivetrain—possibly from the brakes or a tire.

Both departments cleared the scene after ensuring the fire was fully contained.
