Weatherford, OK – Weatherford Animal Control Officers are investigating a possible animal cruelty case after multiple cats were found sick or dead in the city, with evidence one may have consumed antifreeze.

According to a Weatherford Police Department press release, officers were dispatched Oct. 30 to 101 Northwest Main Street on a report of animal cruelty. Two sick feral cats were located and taken to a veterinarian. The vet determined that one of the felines may have drunk antifreeze.

Since that call, officers have found several other dead cats in the same area that may also have consumed antifreeze, police said.

A separate incident was reported Nov. 1 in an alley between Northwest 5th and 6th Street. After speaking with the reporting party, who owned a deceased cat, officers determined that animal had been attacked by another animal. Police said the Nov. 1 case appears to be isolated and not related to the Oct. 30 investigation.

Animal Control has increased patrols in the area of the suspicious activity. The department emphasized that all animal cruelty crimes are treated the same and are serious.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Weatherford Police Department at 580-772-7791.
