Clinton Man Attempts to Burn Down Home – Arrested

A Clinton man was arrested after attempting to set fire to a home.

According to court documents, 31-year-old Robert Venegas Rios was arrested on November 21 after allegedly pouring gasoline on a bedroom floor, and threatening to burn down the home located in the 200 block of S. 16th Street in Clinton. However the document stated that Rios failed to do so due to the arrival of police.

Rios was arrested and ultimately charged with 4th degree arson, a felony. If convicted Rios could face a fine of up to $5,000 or jail time for up to 10 years, or both.

Subsequently, Rios also received misdemeanor charges that include a protective order violation charge and resisting an officer.

A preliminary hearing for Rios has been scheduled for January 7, 2022.
