An Elk City man was arrested last week after assaulting employees at Walmart.

According to the probable cause affidavit, 26-year-old Samuel David Mitchell was arrested on the afternoon of December 22 and charged earlier this week with assault and battery on a police officer, two counts of assault and battery, one count of assault, malicious injury to property under $1,000 and resisting an officer.

The affidavit said the incident began when police were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of West 5th Street in reference to a male suspect breaking into the home and throwing furniture out of the house.

A short time later, police were dispatched to Walmart in reference to a disturbance.

When they arrived they found the suspect, Mitchell, in the parking lot where he refused commands from the officers. Ultimately officers had to deploy a taser on Mitchell before arresting him.

After speaking with witnesses and Walmart employees, it was determined that Mitchell had shoved two male employees, broke off a piece of point-of-sale machine and threw it at a female employee. Mitchell also allegedly damaged another point-of-sale machine and several other items inside the store before leaving.

It was also determined that the home Mitchell had broke into was his mother’s residence. She was not home at the time.

Initial bond for Mitchell was set at $10,000.

His first court appearance has been set for January 4.
