Elk City, OK — An Elk City man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after authorities say he threatened his brother with a knife and damaged property during a disturbance at a local motel.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Beckham County District Court, Dylan Shane Mayfield, 24, is charged with assault and battery with a sharp or dangerous weapon with intent to injure and malicious injury to property under $2,500.
Officers were dispatched around 5:21 p.m. on Dec. 30, 2025, to Motel 6 at 2604 E. Highway 66 in Elk City in reference to a report that Mayfield had threatened his brother with a knife.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the alleged victim and the men’s mother. Officers were told that the mother had rented a room for Mayfield and had gone to help him clean it because it was in disarray. An argument reportedly began, and Mayfield allegedly threw an object at the television, breaking the screen.
The mother contacted the men’s father, who sent the brother to the motel to assist. According to the affidavit, another argument began between the brothers. Investigators state that Mayfield pulled a knife from a backpack and presented it toward his brother while standing in the doorway. The mother was positioned between the two men at the time.
The alleged victim later told authorities that as Mayfield reached into his backpack, he said, “I got something for you,” before producing the knife. The alleged victim responded by throwing a trash can at him before leaving the room.
After exiting the motel room, the alleged victim reported that a can of soup had been thrown from a second story window, striking and breaking the windshield of his vehicle in the parking lot. A damaged can was later observed in the parking lot, according to the affidavit, and photographs were taken of the broken windshield.
The motel manager told investigators she witnessed part of the altercation and saw a knife in Mayfield’s hand, though she did not see him retrieve it.
Officers attempted to make contact with Mayfield in the room but received no response. After receiving consent to enter, officers searched the room and surrounding area but were unable to locate him at that time.
On Jan. 8, 2026, authorities located and interviewed Mayfield. According to the affidavit, he admitted to breaking the television screen with a bottle of cologne and to throwing a can of gravy that struck his brother’s windshield after his brother exited the building.
A judge has found probable cause for the issuance of an arrest warrant. Bond has been set at $100,000, and a no contact order with the alleged victim has been issued.
