An Elk City man was arrested recently after being charged with animal cruelty.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 21-year-old Alfredo Garcia Jr. was arrested on February 3 after being accused of keeping two dogs chained up to a tree, without adequate food.

The report showed that while investigating a separate case, police discovered the two dogs on January 27. They would report that the two dogs appeared to be malnourished and neglected.

After animal control arrived and seized the dogs, the animal control officer would say that she had dealt with Garcia before, saying that she had recently wrote the suspect a ticket for an animal at large, and had offered free dog food to Garcia – however he refused to take it.

The dogs were eventually taken to a local veterinarian for observation where they were given food and care.

Garcia would come to the police department inquiring about the dogs, there he was arrested and booked into the Elk City Jail.

He received two felony charges of animal cruelty in Beckham County District Court. His bond was set at $10,000.
