With local students going back to school in the area, the question on the back of everyone’s mind is school safety.

Elk City Superintendent Mike Sparks says the district is not turning a blind eye to the worrisome trend of school shootings like the recent one that took place in Uvalde, Texas. He says he has been in coordination with local law enforcement regarding response time, and a plan to keep students and staff safe.

Sparks says Elk City Police has indicated to him that they believe their response time to an event at any school on district would be anywhere between two to three minutes.
