Elk City, OK – An Oklahoma City man is facing multiple charges after a high-speed pursuit across Beckham County ended in a crash on Interstate 40 last month.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Beckham County District Court, 25-year-old Quinton Davis Stevens was arrested shortly after midnight on August 21 following a chase that began near mile marker 34 on I-40.
Authorities reported observing a dark Buick hatchback traveling 86 mph in a 70 mph zone just before 11:45 p.m. on August 20. When an emergency stop was attempted, the driver allegedly refused to pull over and accelerated to speeds of around 100 mph, weaving through traffic and passing vehicles on the shoulder.
The pursuit continued onto State Highway 6, where Stevens reportedly reached speeds of 120 mph. At one point, the affidavit states, he turned off his headlights while traveling in the southbound lane, creating a hazard for oncoming motorists.
The chase ended when Stevens attempted to take the eastbound I-40 on-ramp at Exit 38 in Elk City, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a ditch. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities said Stevens refused medical treatment at the scene. He later registered a 0.01 blood alcohol content on a breath test at the Beckham County Detention Center.
Stevens is charged with eluding a police officer, reckless driving, driving in a manner endangering others, and speeding. His bond was set at $50,000.
