A Clinton man was charged recently with two counts of second-degree burglary and knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property after two or more felony convictions after he allegedly burglarizing the Clinton High School.
According to court records, 30-year-old Chad Everette McGee was charged April 6 in Custer County District Court after police said in a probable cause affidavit that McGee had, on two separate occasions, allegedly broke into the Clinton High School.
Once in March, and the latest on April 3.
On that incident, school officials reported to police that a 65 inch television, a personal security camera system and at least three laptops were taken.
After viewing security footage from the night before, school officials were able to recognize a vehicle that was allegedly used in the crime. Police were able to track the vehicle down, where the owner would tell authorities that he was not in possession of the car on the night of the crime. He stated that the defendant had the vehicle at that time.
The affidavit stated that a suspect was also seen on the footage that had a distinguishable tattoo on his arm and unique, khaki colored, shoes.
When police spoke with McGee at his home regarding the crime, they would find a large TV. The defendant told police that he bought the TV from another individual. After further inspection, police would find the school’s barcode on the TV. McGee would later tell police that the individual had left other items at his house, that happen to be the missing security system and laptops.
Police noted in the affidavit that McGee also had a tattoo that matched the one in the security footage.
Police would also note that they suspect McGee may have had an accomplice in the crime, but no arrests have been made at this time.
McGee was arrested and booked into the Custer County Jail. Bond for the defendant was set at $50,000.
A preliminary hearing for McGee has been scheduled for May 20.
