The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has released the name of the man shot and killed in a shootout with law enforcement on Friday in Weatherford.

According to a press release from the OSBI, 39-year-old Colby Archer was fatally wounded after he fired a handgun at law enforcement at the conclusion of a pursuit through city streets.

OSBI says they were requested by the Weatherford Police Department at approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday after the incident that saw multiple law enforcement agencies respond.

Officials say the incident began when Archer entered a business on East Main Street requesting an application for employment. When Archer was told that the business was not hiring, he allegedly pulled a gun on the employee before leaving.

Police were able to locate the vehicle Archer was driving and pull him over. There Archer would brandish his weapon before taking off in the vehicle again.

The pursuit would end near the intersection of Eads and S. Washington, where Archer would pull over and fire shots at officers.

OSBI says law enforcement returned fire, hitting Archer who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

OSBI says one Trooper with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, and no bystanders were injured.

OSBI concluded by saying upon completion of the investigation, agents will submit a report summarizing their investigation to the District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney will determine whether or not to file charges.
