A Mangum man was charged earlier this month in Beckham County after allegedly stealing items from an Elk City store and assaulting an officer during the arresting process.

According to a probable cause affidavit 49-year-old Jason Michael Bruffy is accused of attempting to steal items from the Elk City Walmart on April 10. When police responded they found the suspect leaving the store. The affidavit stated that when approached, the man rushed and attacked the officer, shouting obscenities and also claiming he was a federal marshal.

After placing Bruffy under arrest, officers reportedly found a packaged sandwich that the defendant attempted to steal.

Bruffy was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting an officer, and larceny of merchandise.
