Six Die in Two Vehicle Wreck Near Elk City

A tragic accident west of Elk City that claimed multiple lives Tuesday afternoon is still under investigation.

According to Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka, the accident occurred at the intersection of Route 66 and OK-34, 3 miles west of Elk City, when a 2015 Toyota Sienna driven by 43-year-old Jose Paxtor Oxlai of Los Angelas, California collided with a 2021 Ford F-250 just after 3 p.m.

Chervenka said at this time the ages and names of the victims are still to be determined and it is unknown as to what the relationships of everyone were in the vehicle.

A collision report provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol indicated that the victim flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City was a juvenile, and was last listed to be in critical condition with arm, head, trunk internal, trunk external and leg injuries.

Of the 6 fatalities, the report indicated only one was a juvenile.

The driver, Oxlai, suffered arm injuries and was treated and released from Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He would be arrested on a complaint of first degree manslaughter.

OHP said the condition of the driver and cause of the collision are both under investigation.

The report also stated that child restraints for the two children were not in use during the time of the crash.

The driver of the F-250 was uninjured.
