
Beckham County, OK – A wrong-way collision Thursday morning sent two people to the hospital in Amarillo, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 6 and State Highway 152.
Investigators reported that a vehicle driven by 51-year-old Gabriel Garcia Cruz of Oklahoma City was traveling the wrong way on SH-152 when it collided with another vehicle driven by 69-year-old Jose L. Diera Pineda of Wheeler, Texas.
Both drivers were uninjured, but each vehicle had one passenger who suffered injuries. The passenger in Cruz’s vehicle was flown by medical helicopter to Amarillo, while the passenger in Pineda’s vehicle was transported by ambulance to Amarillo.
OHP confirmed that all occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Next of kin have been notified.
Troop H of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
