Custer County officials received a large settlement for road damages that occurred during the construction of a wind farm in the county.

During the latest meeting of Custer County Commissioners on Monday, it was announced that the county received a payment for nearly $4.5 million that will be used for repairs. District 2 will see a majority of the funds with $3.3 million of the settlement being used to repair 36 miles of roads in that district alone.

The agreement, between the Commissioners, Southwestern Electric Power Company, PSO, and Traverse Wind Energy LLC, came after the construction of the Traverse Wind Farm that damaged roads during its construction process.

The project began construction in November 2020.

In other Custer County news, Commissioners have also agreed to have the bathrooms at the courthouse renovated. Funds approved for that project are $500,000. Commissioners intend to use funds provided to the county from the American Rescue Plan to fund that project.
