Slick roads may be to blame for a 6 vehicle pile up accident on Interstate 40 in Custer County that claimed the life of a Georgia man.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed from the 72 mile marker through the 78 mile marker for nearly 8 hours early Thursday morning after the wreck that occurred just before 1:30 a.m.
Troopers said officially the cause of the wreck is still under investigation, but did list the condition of the roads as being wet and slick due to an overnight sleet and ice storm that moved through the area.
The report said that a total of six vehicles were involved in the crash, four of which being semi trucks while the other two being smaller vehicles. OHP said 35-year-old Hassan Mousa of Stone Mountain, Georgia would perish in the crash after the 2022 Volvo collided with one of the semis.
A passenger in the Volvo, 42-year-old Mohamed Sulaiman of Clarkston, Georgia was transported to OU Medical Center where he was admitted with head, trunk internal, and leg injuries. He was last listed to be in critical condition.
The driver and her two passengers of the second, smaller vehicle, a 2012 Chevy Malibu, was not injured.
The drivers of the other semis were not injured in the crash as well.
ODOT officials said traffic had to be diverted off the interstate at Clinton onto US-183, to OK-152, then back east to OK-54, before heading back north to Weatherford.
