School Board Elections Tuesday

February 13, 2023

By News Director Jared Atha

Voters will return to voting booths throughout the area for various elections on Tuesday.

Locally, two school board seats will be decided in two of western Oklahoma’s smaller school district.

Three people will be vying for a seat on the Canute School Board. Brad Hohnke, Josh Thompson, and Steven Schuster will all be squaring off for office seat number three.

Voters in the Hammon School District will also be deciding between three candidates for board seat number three in that district.

Robin Lamb, Aubrey Christian, and Randi Wynn will be on that ballot.

In the Elk City School District, voters will once again be asked to decide on a transportation bond issue.

Superintendent Mike Sparks says, if approved, the $1.5 million bond issue will go towards the purchase of two activity buses, five route buses, and two passenger vans that do not require a CDL to drive.

He said the current fleet of buses are, on average, 20-years-old and with the high mileage on them – they are showing their age.

Sparks also stresses, this is a need for the district – not a want.

Sparks said if approved, the bond would see voters in the district see a $5.35 annual increase for every $100 one owes in property tax, and that increase would not go into effect until 2024.

Polls will be open from 7a.m. – 7p.m. Tuesday.
