A Weatherford man was arrested recently after attempting to steal over a $1,000 worth of items from the Weatherford Walmart.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 32-year-old Travis Ray Payne was arrested on October 8 when store officials contacted the Weatherford Police about a man using a UPC bar code that would ring up the price of each item at 25 cents each.

The affidavit listed at least 37 separate items, including two items valued over $250 each, were attempted to be taken out of the store by the suspect.

Cost of all the items totaled out at just over $1,030.

Payne was approached by a Weatherford Police Officer at the store and questioned. He would tell the officer that he saw the crime on a Facebook video and saw an opportunity to do it in the store by finding a loose UPC bar code.

Payne was arrested on site and booked into the Weatherford City Jail.

He was charged with one felony count of grand larceny in Custer County District Court last week. Bond for Payne was set at $5,000.
