Press Release
On Monday, April 10, two pleas took place in the 100th Judicial District Court in Collingsworth County.
Luke Inman, the District Attorney for the 100th Judicial District, along with Assistant District Attorney Harley Caudle, prosecuted the cases for the State of Texas, with the Honorable Judge Stuart Messer presiding.
1. Victor Abrego, 62, from Wellington, Texas, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the first degree felony offense of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.
Abrego was arrested on July 20, 2022 by 100th District Attorney’s Office Traffic Enforcement Division Investigator Todd Gambol. Abrego was originally placed on five years probation on July 27, 2022.
The State filed a motion asking the Court to revoke Abrego’s probation on January 20, alleging three violations of community supervision. Abrego pleaded true to all violations.
Abrego was also ordered to pay the remaining $500 fine and $376 in court costs.
“We are expelling these meth-dealers and -users alike, from our small communities in the 100th District as fast as we can,” said Caudle. “If you are selling, making or just using methamphetamine, either leave voluntarily or end up in prison, those are your only choices.”
2. Martin Benavidez, 33 from Wellington, Texas, was placed on three years probation for the second degree felony offense of burglary of a habitation.
Benavidez was arrested by Collingsworth County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeffrey Arnold on September 14, 2022. Benavidez was indicted by the Collingsworth County Grand Jury on February 23.
Benavidez was also ordered to pay a fine of $500, $340 in court costs and $1,000 in restitution, and complete 300 hours of community service. If his probation is revoked, Benavidez faces up to 20 years in TDCJ.
